MAF Scholarship Fund Benefits from
CPA Generosity

Silent Auction Raises Money for Accounting Students
A silent auction held in conjunction with the Spring Members Advisory Forum in May gave a fundraising jump-start to the Michigan Accountancy Foundation’s (MAF) Fifth/Graduate Year Scholarship program for 2006.

MACPA members rallied their support for the scholarships by donating 70 items and cash donations, which brought in a total of which brought in $8,430; cash donations totaled $925. Since 2003, when the scholarship program was established, more than $161,000 has been raised and earmarked for accounting students. To date, 44 scholarships have been awarded.

CPA Creates Legacy for Mother
Past Board Chair Mary Kline-Cueter has honored her mother, who passed away in December 2004, by funding a memorial scholarship in her name. The Eleanore Kline Memorial Scholarship will be presented to a deserving accounting student at the Spring Members Advisory Forum in 2006.

“I wanted to donate to a cause that had personal meaning and one that would honor my mother’s legacy, Kline-Cueter said. "When I heard about MAF, I began to think it was a perfect opportunity. My mother had read that accounting was a great program for women and she convinced me to consider it at a time when I was planning on a career in social work. Because of her insight, I am a CPA today.”

Additional Support Sought
Support of the scholarship program is critical to attracting the “best and the brightest” to the CPA profession in Michigan.

Members can contribute any amount to the scholarship fund, create a “Named Scholarship” like The Eleanore Kline Memorial Scholarship, or donate an item for the fall auction, which will be held at the MACPA Awards Dinner on September 28 in Rochester and recognizes leaders in the profession.

Donated auction items, which are tax-deductible, must be received by September 14. Auction items include entertainment or sporting event tickets, weekend getaways, gift cards or a service of your choice.

Donors will be recognized on event signage, in the auction program and on the MAF web site. To donate an item,
