After countless hours of work-group meetings and a debate that often turned nasty, the Michigan Legislature overwhelmingly approved a new business tax structure. The Michigan Business Tax (MBT) became law with the Governor’s signature on July 12.

As my term as chair of the board draws to a close, Ben Franklin’s adage comes to mind, “It is when the well is dry that we know the price of the water.” While Ben probably would be referring to oil wells and gas prices these days, I’d like to think of the “well” as the enormous number of people who have surrounded and supported the MACPA and me this past year.
