Time to Renew: CPA Licenses & PTIN The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and the IRS are both up and running with online renewal options for CPAs. License Renewal – Current CPA licensees may begin the annual renewal process online on this webpage. You will need to enter your License/Permanent ID number. If you wish to change your address, or if you do not know your license number, you will need to sign on to the full MyLicense site by picking your profession at the Michigan MyLicense homepage. If you have forgotten your login, simply reregister on the website to create a new login and password. Licenses must be renewed before they expire on December 31, 2011. PTINs for 2012 must be renewed by Dec. 31, 2011. The renewal fee is $63. Return preparers who obtained their PTINs by creating an online account should renew their PTINs at www.irs.gov/ptin. The letter should have said, “Online renewal for your (PTIN) is available.” Despite the letter, the online activation code in the letter is still valid for creating an online PTIN account and renewing online. Individuals can also renew using a paper Form W-12, IRS Paid Preparer Tax Identification Number Application, but renewing electronically avoids a four to six week wait for processing the renewal request. Some changes to the PTIN application and renewal process include:
