Volunteer With the MACPA! Opportunities Available for You and Your Students
The MACPA is currently seeking volunteers for two of their programs: the
MACPA Accounting Blitzes and the Accounting Aid Society Tax Assistance
Program. We encourage you to invite your students to volunteer for these
programs along with you!

MACPA Accounting Blitz
Be a part of growing the CPA profession! Share your knowledge with
kindergarten through eighth grade students at an MACPA Accounting
Blitz. Dates for the Blitzes, put on in partnership with Junior Achievement (JA), have been secured in
Detroit,
Grand Rapids and
Traverse City – now we need volunteers! Volunteers
will visit a school for one day to teach students business basics using
lesson plans prepared by JA. A training session is held to familiarize you
with the lesson plans and prepare you for your participation in the event.

Accounting Aid Society Tax Assistance Program
You can provide much needed assistance just by using your accounting
skills!
Volunteers are being recruited to provide tax assistance to low income
families and individuals in Wayne County. The Accounting Aid Society’s Tax
Assistance Program runs from January through April 15 at several locations
throughout Southeastern Michigan. The MACPA will be adopting one of their
sites, Focus:HOPE in Detroit, on February 11 and 18, 2006. A training
session is required, and several are offered throughout January based on
your level of expertise with preparing
taxes – from beginner through expert.

Know of an Accounting Educator Who Goes Above & Beyond? Nominate them for an MACPA Award
If you have a colleague or know of an accounting educator who goes above and
beyond when it comes to teaching students about accounting and their
involvement in the profession,
nominate them for the MACPA’s Distinguished
Achievement in Accounting Education Award. The award recipient is selected
based on their teaching accomplishments, research and contributions to the
profession. In addition, the recipient of the MACPA award will be Michigan’s
nominee for the AICPA’s award of the same name. Let an accounting educator
know you think they’re doing a first-rate job – don’t wait to
nominate them
for this award! Nominations are due by November 7.

Did You Know You Can Earn Your Membership? (Dues Fee Will be Waived!)
Have your dues fee waived by “earning” your membership with the MACPA. There
are several ways in which you can earn your membership, such as
participating on an MACPA Task Force, joining the MACPA Speakers Bureau, attending
an MACPA event or volunteering for either the Accounting Blitzes or Tax
Assistance Program discussed earlier in this issue. Be
sure to encourage colleagues to join as well so they to can enjoy the
resources available to you through your membership, such as this
publication, Educator E-News, savings on office supplies, access to
Careerbank.com and more! Your colleagues
(and students!) are able to earn their membership
as well – they can access an application
online.
