CPA Profession Beat: Hot Topics Faced by Business-World Counterparts
Stay on the cutting edge of the CPA profession with CPA Profession Beat. As hot topics in the accounting arena arise, we’ll make sure you get the scoop. Two hot issues faced by today’s professionals are the Michigan State Board of Accountancy (MSBA) peer review mandate and the Small Business Tax (SBT) issue.

  • Peer Review - Effective March 1, 2007, the MSBA is requiring all licensed CPA firms and sole practitioners that perform audits, reviews and compilations relied upon by third parties to participate in a peer review program for firm license renewal in Michigan. View a comprehensive brochure for an explanation and timeline of the peer review process. For more information, members may logon and visit our Peer Review section, read an article on peer review published in Leaders’ Edge or call the MACPA at 248.267.3700 and ask for the Peer Review Department.

Small Business Tax - Access a recent article from Crain’s Detroit Business, as part of an election guide to business issues, to learn more about this issue. You can also view the results of a survey of MACPA members regarding the future of Michigan’s business taxation structure. The survey, conducted by the law firm of Honigman, Miller, Schwartz & Cohn together with Crain’s, resulted from an August roundtable discussion by tax experts, including several MACPA members. Read Crain’s roundtable transcript and excerpts of comments from the survey.

Enhance the Classroom Experience with Presentation from Accountant/CPA
Bring the real world of accounting today right into your classroom. Accountants and CPAs from across the state want to come speak to your students to tell them all about the accounting profession! You’ll really enhance the classroom experience for students by having an accountant/CPA speak to your students about the career in general, the various career opportunities in the field, or about a specific topic area you’re discussing in class. Fill out the Speaker Request Information Form (download as a Word document or PDF) and e-mail it, or any questions, to Donna Rogers.
