Keep Your Students
Current on Issues Affecting their Future Profession
As an accounting educator, you want to keep up-to-date on current issues
affecting the accounting profession. The MACPA’s annual Spring Members
Advisory Forum on May 9 at the Lansing Center in Lansing can help you stay
in-the-know about these issues. Take the latest information about accounting
back to your students or bring your students with you. Educator and student
members are invited to attend at no charge. Barry Melancon, president and
CEO of the AICPA, will give you must-know information about the accounting
profession from a national perspective. Tim Skubick, senior capitol
correspondent, will talk about the legislative activities of our state’s
government. Plus, a panel will discuss the latest options to solve
Michigan’s financial crisis. As an educator, there is no charge for this

Saving a Life Has Never
Been So Easy
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second
leading cause of cancer death among women. Millions of women are faced with
this life threatening disease, and it is time to fight back. Join the
MACPA’s New Professionals Task Force in the 16th Annual Komen Detroit Race
for the Cure® on June 16th. Walk with the dedicated members and staff of the
MACPA to help raise money for breast cancer research. Registering as part of

Help the
Future of the Profession - Join the Educators Task Force
The MACPA’s Educators Task Force gives you the
opportunity to be a resource for hundreds of accounting students in colleges
across Michigan. As a member of the Task Force, you will promote the
development of accounting education and help organize professional
development conferences for students and educators. This is your chance to
express the benefits and reasons for becoming involved in the accounting

The MACPA and JA - It’s All About Making a
Difference
Join the MACPA and Junior Achievement in making a difference in lives of
students all across the state. For the seventh year in a row, the MACPA is
sending accounting professionals and educators into grade schools to help
educate youngsters on the principals of business. You, or accounting
students, can spend a day in the classroom teaching kindergarten to eighth
grade students business basics. Junior Achievement will provide you with lesson plans and
training. Dates available to volunteer in Detroit are May 8th from 8:30 am
to 2:30 pm or May 18th from 7:30 am to 1:40 pm. You do not have to
be a CPA to volunteer. For more information on the MACPA Accounting Blitzes

Save the Date
for the Educators Symposium
This fall, on November 2nd, the Michigan Accountancy
Foundation is sponsoring the MAF Educators Symposium. This special event
provides teachers with necessary tools to promote the accounting
profession to their students. Educators are encouraged to bring two
students, network with peers and gain knowledge on changes in the
profession. There is no charge for this event, funding is provided
by corporate donations. Come, enjoy and learn - don’t miss this

The IPACK Now Comes in a DVD
Get Your CPA IPACK in a new easy to use DVD. The Taken’ Care of
Business DVD, developed by the AICPA, is packed with lesson plans,
career videos, interactive games and the education handbook. It has everything you
need to make your job easier. Introduce your students to the different
career paths, services provided by and the earning potential of a CPA. Students
will get real-life examples from CPAs in various industries, from government
to entertainment, on the skills needed and positions available to CPAs. The IPACK also provides educators with a presenter’s guide, suggesting topics of
discussion that are most important to students. This is a great tool for

Would You Like a CPA to
Come to Your Classroom?
The accounting profession offers many opportunities, and MACPA members
would like to share them with your students. The MACPA Speakers Bureau
assists schools and community groups with accounting education. Our speakers
will come to your classroom and speak to your students about financial
topics, the role of CPAs and careers in the accounting industry. If you have
a specific topic you would like addressed, the MACPA will find the right
speaker for you. Requesting a speaker is easy, simply fill out this
