May MACPA Accounting Blitz dates in
Detroit,
Saginaw
and Flint. During the MACPA Accounting Blitz, members utilize classroom-based
programs that make economic concepts relevant to young students, fuel the
entrepreneurial spirit and challenge students to excel. You can be part of

FASB Holding Open
Board Meeting April 27
FASB is holding an
open board meeting on Wednesday, April 27 at 9 a.m.
to address the following items: a discussion of the effective dates/comment
periods for the forthcoming Exposure Drafts on business combinations; re-deliberations of the proposed state fair value measurements; and an open
discussion if necessary to deal with minor issues. The meetings are
available by
audio webcast and telephone.

IRS, Treasury Release
Guidance on Expatriation Reporting Requirements
The IRS and Treasury recently announced the release of
Notice 2005-36
and revised
Form 8854,
Initial and Annual Expatriation Information
Statement. The notice and revised form and its instructions address the
significant changes made by the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004 to
the tax and information reporting rules affecting individuals who lose their
U.S. citizenship or long-term resident status after June 3, 2004.

New Bankruptcy Bill
Signed By President Bush
A
new bankruptcy law which makes it harder for debt-ridden consumers to
wipe out debt by declaring bankruptcy was signed by President Bush on April

IRS Seeking ETAAC
Applicants
The IRS is seeking seven applicants to fill vacancies on the
Electronic
Tax Administration Advisory Committee (ETAAC). The panel provides an
organized public forum for discussion of electronic tax administration
issues in support of a major IRS goal: paperless filing of tax and
information returns. ETAAC members are appointed by the Secretary of
Treasury and serve a three-year term.
