MACPA Thanks 2007 PAC and PEF
Contributors
Many thanks to all 1,693 MACPA Political Action Committee (PAC) and
Political Education Fund (PEF) contributors in 2007. Your generosity and
leadership helped the Association reach new records for 2007! Without your
help, Michigan could have been a much different place going into 2008.
Successful advocacy on behalf of the profession to encourage the elimination
of the service tax and alter a version of the new Michigan Business Tax that
would have included unfair treatment of partnerships, LLCs and the like may
not have been possible without your help. All 2007 MACPA PAC and PEF
contributors are recognized
here. If your name does not appear on this year’s list, please consider
a contribution in 2008. We still need your support!

New Regs Give Taxpayers
More Control of Tax Return Information Held by Preparers
The Treasury Department and the IRS released
final regulations and a related revenue procedure giving taxpayers
greater protection and control over their tax return information held by tax
return preparers. The agencies also issued a separate request for public
comment on a proposal to restrict the marketing of refund anticipation loans
and similar products. The final rules update disclosure and privacy laws
related to preparers for the first time in more than 30 years and bring
taxpayer consent requirements into the electronic age. Preparers will have
until Jan. 1, 2009 to implement the new consent requirements, giving
preparers a full year to make any necessary changes.

Build a Usable Security Plan
The best defense against corporate network intrusions is a Security Incident
Management Plan (SIMP). An effective SIMP will offer several advantages to
the security team, including coordination of their measures during the most
important moments. Implementing a documented guideline guarantees the
correct steps are followed.
