2007 Filing Season in Full Swing
As you are aware, the 2007 tax filing season is upon us. The 2007 filing season includes several new features, including telephone excise tax refunds, a new refund deposit feature, and recently enacted tax breaks that may require extra attention from taxpayers. The IRS plans to send 17 million 1040 tax packages for 2006 taxpayers who have previously filed paper returns. This year, the agency expects to process about 136 million individual tax returns for 2006, with more than half of those filed electronically.

CPA License Mobility: Affecting Future CPAs
You are now working toward your CPA license. As a future CPA, a current hot-button issue that may affect you is CPA License Mobility. Much like your driver’s license allows you drive in other states, Mobility would allow you to practice in other states, regardless of what state you initially receive your license. Current licensing requirements vary per state. Read more about state mobility licensing requirements here. MACPA leadership is laying the foundation with state regulators and policy-makers in Lansing to achieve license mobility, as are state society leaders across the nation. As an MACPA member, you can stay on the cutting edge of progress and developments. Since the issue is still in the early stages of discussion, some background information is available here.
