The Michigan Accountancy Foundation (MAF) has selected 25 accounting students from 13 universities across the state to receive the 2007 MAF Fifth/Graduate Year Scholarship in the amount of $4,000. This prestigious honor was awarded to applicants who exemplified outstanding academic and civic achievements throughout their college years. This brings the total number of MAF scholarships awarded since 2003 to more than 90. A list of MAF scholarship recipients appears on the MACPA web site.

Fall Members Advisory Forum Hits All the Hot Topics
Helping to keep members abreast of critical national and local issues impacting the dynamic accounting environment, MACPA’s Fall Members Advisory Forum presentations will cover the Michigan Business Tax and MACPA developments, as well as CPA license mobility and other national issues. Incoming AICPA Chair Randy Fletchall will keynote the program, slated for Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at the Rock Financial Showplace, Novi.

MACPA Names New Academic and Career Development Specialist
The MACPA is pleased to announce that David Johnson was promoted to Academic and Career Development Specialist.  David has been with the MACPA for nine years and has worked in virtually every department within the association.  Earlier this year, David was transferred to the academic department and took on the role of Academic and Career Development Coordinator.  After proving himself to be an outstanding coordinator, he was recently promoted.  As a student member, if you ever need anything please feel free to contact David at djohnson@michcpa.org.

Two Michiganders Among Top CPA Exam Scorers
Two of the ten AICPA 2006 Elijah Watt Sells Award winners are Michigan residents. The award is presented annually to the 10 candidates earning the highest cumulative scores on the four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination. Keith A. Piwko graduated from Michigan State University and is working for Plante & Moran, PLLC in Auburn Hills. Kurt B. Piwko is also a graduate of Michigan State University and is employed by Plante & Moran, PLLC in Clinton Township.

New MACPA Web Page Offers Extensive MBT Info
With the launch of a new web page today, MACPA members gain access to extensive information and resources on the Michigan Business Tax. Links to the original statute, House Fiscal Agency analysis, legislative updates, an archive of articles about the MBT, and links to MBT educational programs are easily accessed on the MBT Resources web page. Plus, members may post questions to the MBT Q&A Forum and read all the posts from other members. Volunteer members of the MACPA, well-versed in the details of the Michigan Business Tax (MBT), answer your questions to their best ability using available information. This resource will be updated regularly, providing the most recent developments regarding implementation.

MACPA Named "Cool" Place to Work
The Michigan Association of CPAs has been named to Crain’s Detroit Business “Cool Places to Work.” The MACPA was selected from more than 300 nominations received. The award recognizes MACPA workplace initiatives such as employee appreciation and community service involvement. The list of all winning companies will be published in the September 3 issue of Crain’s Detroit Business.
