Advocacy Reaches from Mackinac to Washington, D.C. MACPA’s Legislative Advisory Group continues to represent the best interests of the CPA profession by building strong relationships with state and federal legislators and regulators. In late March, Legislative Advisory Group members Stephen H. Epstein, CPA, Walter S. Koziol, CPA, Dennis M. Echelbarger, CPA, Wayne A. Pahssen, CPA, and MACPA President and CEO Peggy Dzierzawski, CAE, delivered the Association’s government relations philosophy: “What can WE do for YOU” to Washington, D.C. Over the two days, the CPA message was carried to seven offices as the group met with legislators and staff including U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow and U.S. Congressmen Dave Camp, Thaddeus McCotter, Peter Hoekstra, Joe Knollenberg, Mike Rogers and U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller. In June, group members Koziol and Pahssen joined MACPA Government Relations and Volunteer Services Manager John Lindley on Mackinac Island for the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce Leadership and Policy Conference. The MACPA sponsored Friday’s Lunch with Legislators at the Grand Hotel, enabling conversations with legislators, legislative staff and business leaders from throughout the state. The MACPA’s visibility at this three-day conference and efforts in meeting with the Michigan delegation in Washington D.C. are just two of the imperative advocacy measures carried out on behalf of the CPA profession.
