Spring Members Advisory Forum Highlights
the Successes and Issues Facing Today's CPA
It’s a great time to be a CPA!
You'll hear just how great it is if you attend this year’s
Spring Members
Advisory Forum.
Forum attendees will hear how CPA recruitment efforts are making a
substantial impact on accounting enrollment; how enhancements to state and
national image efforts have proven successful according to recent polling;
and how Michigan legislative efforts have increased protection of the public
interest and the CPA.
The event takes place Wednesday, May 10, from
8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the Lansing
Center in Lansing. Attendees receive five general CPE credits and the
opportunity for two ethics sessions offered as optional
CPE courses
following the program.
Featured speakers:
- Barry Melancon, AICPA president and CEO, will highlight
critical issues impacting our profession, including advocacy and
outreach, audit quality and peer review and private company financial
reporting.
- Suzanne Jolicoeur, Licensing Administrator, Michigan State
Board of Accountancy, will address recently passed Michigan Accountancy
Reform legislation that, among other things, provides whistleblower
protection to licensed CPAs and individuals employed by licensed CPAs,
requires mandatory enrollment in a practice monitoring program and
increases enforcement of unlicensed activity or “copycat CPAs.”
- Steve Epstein, Michigan Accountancy Foundation President,
will tell you about the great success the Foundation has had in
providing scholarships to fifth/graduate students and the effects their
initiatives have on future CPAs.
- John Pridnia, MACPA board member and chair of the Political
Action Committee (PAC) Board, will provide an update on the profound
work of the Association’s PAC in the recent legislation that has passed
as well as their work in other legislation.
- Tom Hoisington, president of PAA Advisory, will share
developments on state and federal legislative and political news.
- Peggy Dzierzawski, MACPA President and CEO, will provide an
MACPA update that will feature highlights on media and image enhancement
successes; student recruitment efforts
and public service initiatives.
