Metro Detroit Citizens Need You!
A Great Opportunity to Volunteer with the MACPARegardless if
you’re a seasoned CPA, new professional or accounting student, the Michigan
Association of CPAs has just the right volunteer opportunity for you. We are
ramping up for our 2008 Tax Assistance Program, a MACPA Communications Task
Force initiative in partnership with the Accounting Aid Society. With a few
hours of required software training, you will have the capability to prepare
tax returns for low-income individuals and families at Focus: HOPE in
Detroit. Dates and locations of the training sessions will be available
soon.
Your valuable time and effort would be put to good use for this worthy
cause. In order to help as many clients as possible, a third day at Focus:
HOPE has been added to the schedule. The dates for the program are as
follows: February 2, 2008, February 9, 2008 and February 16, 2008. You can
choose to volunteer for one, two or all three dates.
Last year, MACPA volunteers returned more than $133,000 – valuable help for
those who needed it the most. Diane Edwards, chair of the Communications
Task Force, is a repeat volunteer. “I think this is an excellent alliance
with Marshall Hunt and the Accounting Aid Society,” she commented. “I love
volunteering for the program because I know we are really providing a needed
service to the community.”
Along with returning as much money as possible to lower income individuals,
MACPA also wants to ensure the health and well-being of metropolitan Detroit
citizens. Building upon our involvement with the Komen Race for the Cure,
the MACPA has teamed up with the Karmanos Cancer Center to distribute
information on cancer screening, early detection and treatment availability.
Representatives from Karmanos will be on site at Focus: HOPE each Saturday
to provide information and answer questions.
If you are interested in volunteering for the 2008 Tax Assistance Program,

locations of the required training sessions will be available soon.
