News & Notes from the State Board of Accountancy - CPA License and Registration Renewal
By Jean M. Boven, Director, Licensing Division

The renewal cycle for CPAs ends December 31, 2007, when all licenses and registrations expire. Notices were mailed to CPA licensees and registrants the first week of November. While firms should renew by mail, individual CPAs may find that online renewal is the fastest, most convenient method.

CPAs may verify continuing education credits online as well. During the summer months, licensed CPAs reported continuing education taken in the current renewal cycle. This information has been posted to individual license files. To verify that continuing education is properly credited, CPAs should visit www.michigan.gov/accountancy; click on "Check Accountants CE Credit".

Licensed and registered CPAs without any record changes are strongly encouraged to renew online this year at www.michigan.gov/bcsrenewal using their license or registration number and a MasterCard or Visa credit card. Persons taking advantage of the online renewal can expect to receive their renewed license or registration within five business days.

Individuals who wish to renew on-line, but have an address change, may do so at www.michigan.gov/elicense. The CPA will need a MasterCard or Visa credit card, their license or registration number, social security number and date of birth to create a password that will allow them to make an address change prior to renewing.

Individuals who wish to make a name change, or change from licensed to registered, or from registered to licensed, should renew by mail. Mailed renewal applications take two to four weeks to process.

We sincerely appreciate the MACPA assisting the department to notify licensees and registrants of the ability to complete their renewal by using the on-line renewal system. This expedited process is a wonderful benefit for licensees. Licensees can contact the department at (517) 241-9288, press 2 and follow the prompts.
