Election Results:
CPA Profession Wins with New Governor and New State Reps
The November 2, 2010 election results overwhelmingly favored Republican
candidates from the top of the ticket to the bottom. Another major theme was
the election of CPAs to public office – CPAs that will take much-needed
financial wherewithal to Lansing with them.
CPA Tax Return Preparers:
Renew Your PTIN
From now through the end of the year, the Internal Revenue Service will
notify about one million tax return preparers to remind them that they must
renew their Preparer Tax Identification Numbers (PTIN) if they are still
paid preparers. Use of the PTIN will be required on all federal returns
prepared by paid tax return preparers starting January 1.
Navigator of the Profession – James
Leisenring
Jim Leisenring has been a powerful force in national and international
standard setting for the profession for nearly three decades. He was

(FASB), after 10 years of service on the International Accounting Standards
Board (IASB).

Seize the Future
The November 2nd election put our state’s future on a new path –
a path that places CPAs on the forefront of change. With CPA Rick Snyder
elected as our new governor, and four CPAs elected to the State House, the
profession is in a strong position to bring significant financial expertise
to the table to help rebuild our state.
