Address Michigan CPAs at Members Advisory Forum
 |
|
2003-2004 Chair
of the Board Karen Wiltsie welcomed Bob Bunting to the podium
with a (toy) Ford Mustang. Bunting noted he felt right at home
in Dearborn, Michigan, as his father was a Ford dealer in Idaho.
|
The 2004 Fall Members Advisory Forum kicked off with a town-hall style
meeting led by Robert Bunting, incoming
AICPA chair. Bunting provided an
update on national regulatory issues, and he also told members to watch for
a number of new initiatives on the horizon, including an audit committee
toolkit for non-profits and a soon-to-be launched government audit quality
center.
Bunting was one of five speakers at the September 8 event in Dearborn.
Past AICPA Chair James Castellano explained current efforts to determine if
GAAP reporting meets the needs of private company constituents. He invited
members to offer input, and encouraged them to read the discussion paper.
Past MACPA Chair Walt Koziol provided an overview of potential changes in
the Michgian peer review process. The changes are part of a number of
recommendations proposed by the
State Board of Accountancy in response to
Sarbanes-Oxely.

| During the 2004 Annual Meeting of Members, 2003-2004 Chair Karen Wiltsie
officially passed the gavel to Incoming Chair John Higgins. |
MACPA President and CEO Peggy Dzierzawski provided an update on MACPA
initiatives, and lobbyist Tom Hoisington offered his perspective on the
upcoming state and federal elections.
The meeting also played host to MACPA’s Annual Meeting of Members,
highlighted by an introduction of 2004-2005 Chair of the Board John Higgins,
CPA Crossings, LLC, Rochester Hills.
Silent Auction Success
The
Michigan Accountancy Foundation
conducted a successful inaugural Silent in conjunction with the
MACPA Members Advisory Forum and Awards Banquet. Some of the most
sought-after auction items included: a hockey stick autographed by
Steve Yzerman, tickets to various sporting events – including the
Ryder Cup and the U of M vs. MSU football game and a portable DVD
player. All proceeds from the 120+ auction packages supported the
MAF Fifth/Graduate Year Scholarship.
In the past two years, 28 students have
been awarded the Fifth/Graduate Year Scholarship to assist them on
their journey to becoming a CPA. The funds raised at the auction
will help the MAF to continue to
fund scholarships in the future, helping to grow the CPA
profession. |
