News & Notes from the State Board of
Accountancy
By Jean M. Boven, Director, Licensing DivisionContacts for
Licensing Issues
Those of you who have worked with the Department of Labor and Economic
Growth’s Accountancy licensing staff members will be interested to know that
licensing administrator Suzanne Jolicoeur retired from state service April
30, 2007, to accept a position with the AICPA. Joseph Campbell will be the
acting administrator until Ms. Jolicoeur can be replaced. Campbell has been
with the Bureau of Commercial Services, Licensing Division for five years
and oversees the licensing programs for a number of other occupations.
Vito Danzo, assistant licensing administrator, also retired at the end of
May. Sara Hernandez, who has worked in the accountancy unit for four years,
will be replacing Danzo as the assistant licensing administrator for the
accountancy program. Hernandez will oversee the processing of applications
for CPA certificates, licenses and registrations. She can be reached at
517.241.9288, then press 1430.
Renew Online This Year
All CPA licenses expire December 31, 2007. Continuing professional education
(CPE) reports were due June 30 to the DLEG Accountancy Unit. Licensees must
take 80 hours of CPE over the two-year cycle, including 16 hours of
accounting/auditing and four hours of ethics to be eligible to renew.
Renewal applications will be mailed to licensees and registrants by October
1.
The Licensing Division strongly encourage all licensees to take advantage of
the new online renewal site this year. If you do not have an address change
to report, you may renew online at
www.michigan.gov/bcsrenewals. You will need your license number and a
MasterCard or Visa credit card. CPAs taking advantage of online renewal
should receive their renewed license by mail within five business days.
If you have an address change, you can still renew online at
www.michigan.gov/elicense; however, you will be required to create a
User ID and Password using your license number, social security number and
date of birth prior to renewing.
Persons with name changes must renew their license by mail. It is important
that licensees renew their licenses upon receipt of the renewal notice to
ensure they have their updated license prior to December 31, 2007. Allow six
to eight weeks for delivery of updated licenses renewed by mail. You may
obtain information about license renewal at 517.241.9288, press 2 and follow
the prompts.
